In my previous post, I wrote about the basics of my skincare and haircare routine. Mommy Beauty isn’t about the glam; it’s about practicality and efficiency. If the stuff I recommend keeps you feeling confident and gets you out the door in ten minutes or less, then damn girl, I’ve done my job!
Now, on to makeup!
Ah, makeup. This is the category that changes most often for me, because I have a Sephora Play Box subscription and I love to try new things. That being said, I have other tried-and-true tricks up my sleeve. I’ll start with the Maybelline Makeup Dream Fresh BB Cream, because it is my go-to starter for a face full of makeup. It is a “skin perfector,” and honestly, that’s exactly what it does. It sinks in without leaving any grease or residue behind, it’s SPF 30, and it evens out any slight sun spots or problematic areas. I use the Light/Medium Tone bottle. It’s also my option, with mascara, for a day when I don’t feel like putting on anything else.
The Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse is divine, y’all. It glides on like butter, is airy and super soft, but has an immediate matte effect. It’s just gorgeous. I’ve used it in the San Diego heat, and it doesn’t budge or smear. I linked my skin tone here, but they’ve got a wide range of shades.
My eye game begins and ends with giant eye pencils. I used to get all fancy and use algebra or whatever to place a design on my eyelid. Now? Giant sharpie-style pencil, please, so that I won’t make a mistake during my five-minute routine. Quick and easy. My favorite eye pencils are the earth tones from Sephora.
Then, mascara and brow gel. The Tarte and Sephora mascaras are bomb, and the Anastasia Brow Gel is life. It’s clear and holds perfectly without any wispy little extra bits clinging to your brows and making you look like an angry barn owl. You know what I’m talking about, ladies.
Fragrance is such a personal thing, isn’t it? I need to say, first of all, that I do not wear a great deal of perfume. In my purse, I carry a roller filled with lavender essential oil. It’s my go-to. And while I know oils are extremely popular now, my favorite oil is actually 5 years old. It’s pictured in the middle there, the glass bottle with a purple sticker. I bought it in the south of France while pregnant with my first child. We were surrounded, all day every day, by fields of lavender flowers, and the smell was calming and intoxicating. Every time I dab on a little, I am taken back to those beautiful moments.
Scent is a powerful thing. It really does connect us to the world in unique and transformative ways. Since I was a child, I was fascinated by Chanel No. 5. It is the ultimate in femininity, and yet, it’s not a soft fragrance. It is assertive and deeply sexy. It is my perfume for very special occasions. The other perfume I adore is Chloé. I actually had not smelled it before a good friend sent it to me as a gift years ago, and I’ve made it last ever since. It is floral, but in a way that sends romantic shivers down your spine as opposed to making you feel like someone dropped you into a garden. It is delicious.
Well, that brings us to the end of my inside look at my bathroom cabinets, etc. Like I said, I do not profess expertise on any of these items. I just know them well because I’ve used many of them for years now. I rely on them, and trust the brands that make them.
I’d love to have you comment below on your go-to items for skincare, haircare, makeup, perfume, lotion, etc. Tell me what’s rocking your world! xo, Daphne
